Healthcare and your money
Filed under FinancesAug 18There’s a lot of chatter these days about healthcare and its costs. A lot of people really don’t have a clue what they are talking about though, so let me break it down.
There are 4 ways to run healthcare: 1. Government runs the healthcare (Britain) 2. Government runs the health insurance (Canada) 3. Private companies run health insurance (U.S.) 4. Private companies run every aspect of healthcare (Switzerland)
When Obama mentions the public option, he means number two up there, not number one (pay attention Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity.) There will not be universal medicine, just a government option for health insurance to compete with the private health insurance companies. Yes, it will cost money to fund it, but unless you make 250K or more, it won’t affect you.
Ideally we would be more like number 4. If people paid for everything health care related, then the costs would go down as hospitals and doctors had to compete. That would save us the most money. Hopefully Congress gets it right…
