Here is an idea for all the liberal whack jobs still trying to get payday loans banned. Instead of trying to protect consumers by banning payday loans, why not protect consumers by teaching them about payday loans? Surely education is the best approach, right?

With that in mind, here is how to use a payday loan.

    1. Attempt to secure money from family or friends first.

These loans typically do not come in writing and do not have any interest rate attached to them. Friends and family are there to help each other out, so see if someone will help you before you get into debt.

    2. Research your expenses

Figure out the least amount you can borrow to survive. Payday loans have a high APR, so you don’t want to borrow more than you have to.

    3. Compare expenses to income

You may decide that $500 is the minimum you need to borrow to survive until payday. Well if payday only brings in $450, then borrowing $500 would be a bad idea. As a general rule, never borrow more than 50% of your next paycheck. Always make sure you can pay back what you borrow in one pay period.

    4. Only use a payday loan if you have a need, not a want

Taking an early shopping spree is a terrible reason to get a cash advance. You can get payday loans online to go shopping if you really want to, but it is not a very good idea. Only get a quick payday advance when you are in financial distress.

    5. Pay it back

Under no circumstance should you ever extend your loan. If you did your research, you only borrowed what you could easily pay back on the next pay day. Make sure you pay it back. Because of the high APR you could end up paying a bundle if you do not pay back the loan quickly.

That is it. Payday loans are simple. Again, notice that those petitioning the hardest to ban payday loans are those who offer alternative short-term loan products. Coincidence? Remember, never trust anyone who has a vested interest in your decisions. Don’t trust a pencil salesman’s recommendation on pencil brands. Don’t trust a cell phone provider’s suggestion for a cell phone plan. They only want to push their products. Their best interest is what is on their mind, not yours.

So take it from someone who is not selling anything to you: payday loans are not bad or evil. Use them right and they can be a lifesaver. Anyone who tells you otherwise has probably never needed a payday loan or is trying to sell you something else.
